The European Union demands China to release Gui Minhai publisher
Gui Minhai, a Swedish-born Swedish citizen and a Hong Kong-based book publisher, was arrested by police on January 20. The European Union on Wednesday urged China to release Gui Minhai immediately so that he could receive diplomatic and medical aid.
According to Gui Minhai's daughter, Gui was detained by a group of Chinese police officers in a civilian uniform on January 20, when he and his diplomats arrived. Two other Swedes are traveling by train from Ningbo, eastern China, to Beijing. Gui Minhai travels to Beijing to see a doctor. He had nervous diseases.
On Wednesday, the EU ambassador to Beijing demanded Chinese authorities release Gui, a Swedish citizen and an European citizen. It is so that he can be reunited with his family and can get help from a doctor. Gui Minhai is the founder of Mighty Current, a Hong Kong-based bookstore. The printing house makes a book of private life of Chinese leaders. These books were banned by China from being present in Mainland China. Recently, Margot Wallström, the Swedish Foreign Minister, demanded that China release Gui Minhai. She has summoned two Chinese ambassadors to Stockholm.
Gui Minhai is among the five printers missing between 2015 and early January 2016 and has appeared in A few months later. In February 2016, he appeared in Chinese television and confessed that he was involved in a traffic accident in 2003. He has dedicated himself to a court of law. China announced his release in October 2017, but his daughter told him to be placed under house arrest under police surveillance.
